8/30 LJ Chewy hamachi
My revised fishing schedule has me only fishing one day, this week anyway. Wanted my fix, so I launched around 4 AM. Small, low tide surf with some breeze from the south. Tons of mackeral, some BIG at the pier. I was tossing back the super sabas. Fanally had a tank full and headed into the black. Nothing until 6ish, 2# ambitious boney. Around 7 AM the YT switch turned on. I went 3 for 5 between 7-8 around the 1/2 in 80-100 feet. First YT got nabbed by a dog, but I charged him and swung the gaff and he dropped it and I managed to bounce it on my lap. Sealion all lit up and getting way up in the air, had to keep swinging the gaff to keep him off. Finally gave up on me , pretty hairy. Next fish pulled the hook after 5 minutes, then an 8#er released. Nice one took me all the way to the bottom and broke me off on 30#. Ended with a good one, around 20#. Around 8AM it died. Only a couple more bones and a surface iron calico. On the beach around 10. Vito had similar results. Kind of a chilly morning with the marine layer, finally sun broke through about 9:30

Nice DOS YT!! Be careful with the meat of the one with bite marks... Sealions have lots of bacteria in their teeth on account they don't floss and brush... well, that is what I was informed. Seems reasonable :?:

Way to "fight for your right" to your fish. Bastard seals. Good job on the yellows.
Are your shins that sunburned or are you wearing red tights under everything?

Nice!!!
Dam Andy, you make it seem so easy. Then I look at the time line
and see you put 6 hours on the water. With my late start, I only had to put in almost double that time to get my only YT. Still the farmer again today or I would have been out in 6 hours. Took a clue from from you. After my last flourocarbon leader broke midway up the leader, I put the hook on to 30 lb mono. Not long after I hooked into my Yt. I do get more hits on the flourocarbon, but if I had a leader on, this fish kelped me and would have been gone due to another leader break. This stuff is way to expensive for what it is. Great double, and glad you won over the furbag. |
