Hello all,

New to kayaking, been lurking on various forums. I am looking to venture out to open waters off Oceanside and/or Pt Loma. Not confident yet for surf launch. It is probably a good idea NOT to go alone however. I may be interested in getting out this week and was wondering if I launched from Camp Pendleton, where would be a good place to try i.e. general direction and how far off shore? (not expecting any "secret spot" revelations, just some general pointers).

Some details:
Live in Escondido
Retired Military
Cobra Navigator XF rigged with: Live bait bucket (bilge pump, battery e.t.c.); Home made bait tube, PVC Kayak Cart, quick clips, leashes, clamps., anchor and trolley, 4 flush mounts, 1 scotty mount. No electronics.

Limited fishing gear: Spinning rod 20# test, Jigmaster and Ugly stick 30# test, a few Hammer Baits, plastic grubs, Kroks, assorted hooks, egg sinkers, pyramid sinkers, sinker slides, beads. (gradually building up my arsenal).

Looking at starting at Oceanside due to proximity and easy access to offshore. Otherwise Pt Loma kelp launch from Lawrence Street just before the sub base.

Thanks for any assistance.

James
