New to the West Coast, Looking to get out an fish!

Hey everyone, so I'm an experienced kayak angler from the east coast, mostly striped bass, blues, some football tuna and fluke/flounder. I just moved out here and would like to meet up with some people, and learn the ropes.

Most importantly, I'm not looking for anyone to spot burn and give up there favorite spots, however the launch map database isn't up and working, and I've been told this isn't exactly the place to be a pioneer with all the dangerous rocks and stuff in the area, mostly around la jolla. I'm looking to just get out and get wet, maybe do some halibut fishing while I learn the area.

I'm working with a stealth 12, with the live well up and running, a gps/fish finder combo, and some trevala 7' and 6'6" paired with saragosa 4000F's.

If anyone is interested in maybe taking me under their wing, or just pointing me in the right direction of a good place to launch with some fish in the area, It would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Neill

Welcome to the left coast. We have plenty of species to catch here but not much of the inner waters and estuaries like they have back east and south. LJ is a special place but it is one of many. Any beach on a day with less surf can put you on fish. There are also the bays that are easily accesable. Where are you located? Mike

Thanks guys, I'm pretty excited to be out on the left side. I packed up my dog, some clothes, my kayaks, surfboards bike and rods and said, "just go west."

I'm staying with some family in La Jolla , windnsea area, and looking for a place in Northern PB. I was going to launch out today and just paddle around, but the surf was a little bigger than I'm used to, and I wasn't sure of the fishing grounds, some internet searching showed it was all protected and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I have never tried to fish out of PB. The northern most access is Tourmalene Street and it is a very popular surfing area even when the surf is tiny. I do not enjoy paddling out or riding in through surfers on my loaded kayak. I have paddled out at dawn at several north county locations and found the landing area choked with surfers, swimmers, and surly life guards when I tried to land later. Just some thing to keep in mind in the summer. West coast is a great place to fish but I lived for a year on the Outer Banks of NC, Roanoke Island to be exact, and I miss the summer shallow water fishing back there. I had a creek running through my back yard that would take me to either side of the island. Reds, trout, flounder, blues, spanish macks, stripers, sheephead, blue crabs, oysters, shrimp with the cast net, all fun and good eating. Mike
