LJ yellowtail

I just relocated to San Diego and spent the past week unpacking and organizing my new place, but all I could think about was getting the Yak and hitting up La Jolla. I Finally finished up and decided to give it a shot.

I got to the launch at 6:00am to lake like conditions and got to the Fishing grounds about 20 minutes later. I went and tossed some swimbaits in the kelp for for a couple calicos and some assorted Rockfish, but I knew where my heart was set.

The Mackeral were in thick, so I went and made bait and flylined a FAT 12" greenback behing my kayak and slow trolled around for a little while. Then ZZZZZZZZZ Fish on and I knew what it was as soon as the fish took its first run.
As soon as I saw color, I realized I didn't have a gaff. When I got the fish next to my kayak I just grabbed his tail and started poppin gills.
What a great way to start out my new life down in san diego. I hope to get the chance to pull on plenty more yellows.

Great catch!

And to think locals have been chasing these elusive species for years ... and you come in and nail one right off the bat.

Met you on the beach that day. Fish was much bigger in person, you are not a small dude.

Congrats on the YT

Whats up steve,

Your right, the fish looks alot smaller in the pics. I tend to dwarf the fish I take pictures with.
