7/18 SD Bay.......2 pointers?

Launched from Lawrence St. into predawn glass. Took me 12 minutes to paddle to the bait barge. Got a $5+$2 tip, pass of dines. Guy recommended fishing across near North Island, said alot of good halibut have been caught there, as well as shortfin corvina. It did not take me long to build up a small pile of raked baits. I think I was drifting the nursery. Ended with a couple spotties, short WSB and a couple short halibut. The one in the picture was sooooo close, but no matter how many times I measured, it fell just short. I did hook what I think was a good one, it was towing me along and once I turned its head it let go. Only had 2 baits left when I went in at 10AM. Nice change, weekday traffic was pretty light out there. I probably only paddled 2 miles, made work a little less tiring.

Nice corvina. Gotta love the $5 scoop. Better than ice cream. Fished the bay Monday afternoon for as many spotties as you could take.
Just stick your hand in the water and they'd grab on.

Lots of, I'm not sure, shovelnose or guitarfish. Same thing? I would get a glimpse of them, and they would run to the bottom. Bring 'em back up with the gaff readyand cry when I saw the tail. They do fight good. Caught three and broke off a couple that I suspect were the same.

Caught three short halibut as well. Just can't get that legal one.
And to change topics, my calico from an otherwise very quiet Saturday.

No limits on great days on the water.

The taco stands at the Ensenada harbor use the tail of the shovelnose for their famous fish tacos.
