surf launch practice

whos down to rent the wave pool at raging waters and practice all day?

on a serious note. are there any beaches that are known to have a calm and angry side? like one section is full of waves and then a bit north/south its usually pretty calm. just so i can go and get thrashed around then get serious and take the easy way out and maybe fish?

Try this location.

There's been some extensive argument as to whether this is a 3, 4, 5 or 6 foot wave. I say, it doesn't matter because 99.99% of the yakkers that try to make it through something like this will fail.

This was by far one of the best fishing trips I've had

well i think its 4'. the guy in the yak is sitting and his head is above it, the dude on the side is squating and just below it. so... 4.5ft.

4 foot face 2-3 fot swell (wave) wave is gonna jack up at shore and look bigger on the face because it sucked up water in front in order to jack up, makes it look bigger. Either way, somebodies getting wet.

LJ is perfect for this. The waves are always smaller right in front of the launch... if you go a little north or south they are pretty much always bigger. Suggest south - the lifeguards might get a little worried if you venture into the "swim" zone to the north. You don't have to go far, maybe 300 yards or so.

I occasionally take my yak out after a day fishing just to play in the surf with no gear. Makes it fun instead of terrifying and great practice for those bigger days.
