Thanks guys, I'm pretty excited to be out on the left side. I packed up my dog, some clothes, my kayaks, surfboards bike and rods and said, "just go west."
I'm staying with some family in La Jolla , windnsea area, and looking for a place in Northern PB. I was going to launch out today and just paddle around, but the surf was a little bigger than I'm used to, and I wasn't sure of the fishing grounds, some internet searching showed it was all protected and I'd rather be safe than sorry. |

I have never tried to fish out of PB. The northern most access is Tourmalene Street and it is a very popular surfing area even when the surf is tiny. I do not enjoy paddling out or riding in through surfers on my loaded kayak. I have paddled out at dawn at several north county locations and found the landing area choked with surfers, swimmers, and surly life guards when I tried to land later. Just some thing to keep in mind in the summer. West coast is a great place to fish but I lived for a year on the Outer Banks of NC, Roanoke Island to be exact, and I miss the summer shallow water fishing back there. I had a creek running through my back yard that would take me to either side of the island. Reds, trout, flounder, blues, spanish macks, stripers, sheephead, blue crabs, oysters, shrimp with the cast net, all fun and good eating. Mike
