Dana Point Report. . .

In position and ready for action at first light. Seemed really slow. Took me a lot of effort to find/make bait.

Using the swim baits, caught 4 nice Calico and 1 nice sand bass.

Live bait = 0
Swim bait = 5

You never know. I was trolling a nice size mack. I noticed behind me the mack breaching out of the water. That's unusual, what on earth would cause that? I started to reel the fish in a bit... Couple of cranks and the Mack b-lines it to the Kayak. What was following....? a nice sized Thresher swimming up to and under the yak looking for the mack (who was tucked high on the water under the grooves of the kayak). As quickly as it happened it ended.

Off the water by 1:30 pm. Wind was picking up but very manageable. For those hitting the water this weekend, I'm betting it will be fun.

Was out there myself yesterday for the Fishing w/Friends at DPJS. Conditions could not have been nicer, flat water, small swells, barely any wind, at least until about noon, water was crystal clear, you could see down about 20 feet. Got my first ever legal halibut! Yeah!

Sweet, was it. . .

flat, brown on one side, white on the other, two-eyes on one side. . . ?

Yep, that's the one I accidentally left behind.

Was it as good to eat as I had imagined? WOULD have been my first legal too.

You know, I thought it was odd that someone would just leave one of those sitting around, but I am an opportunist...

And it tasted better you imagined...

Go swimbaits! Always cool to have a close encounter too.
