Looks like a good place to fish...

I can think of at least five people, in WCW, that would drive three hours to fish that spot.

Kick a$$ report, Josh. Perfect gaff shot on that Halibut, too.

When are you going to put those Phoenix rods to the test, though?

Nice!

Josh,
How did the Wax wings work for you in the kelp? How "weedless" are they? Also, nice filet job on the Hali. Is that a Russell Blade?

fan casting describes it pretty good...
cast it out...let it hit the bottom...pick it up a few feet...
let it fall...repeat...
no drift/drag...no dead stick....

Haha...I don't know why, but this made me laugh out loud.

You caught three legal halibut in the same area - no way! Only a very skilled kayak angler could catch three legal halibut in the same area

Thanks. My brother and I fish OC a lot but we actually live closer to Maliby and we would like to make the trip soon. That's not a bad paddle assuming there is lots of kelp along the way to keep you "entertained"!!!

Is the parking an issue especially now in the summer??

Much abliged,

Angel Figueras

Parking at Escondido

Saw the parking from Gmaps and it looks tough.....access looks like it is gated. How do you guys do it??

The gate is unlocked and park on the road just make sure your in a legal area. They.dispatch tow trucks very fast there.

the gate is a public access...
there is a sign that says Escondido Beach Private...
but it is not a private beach!
the residents just want the laymen to believe it's so...
if you get there early in the morning, parking is never an issue...
but if you show up later in the day, it could be tough...
there are no parking signs so pay attention to where you park...
