Double figure Bass from the UK (+ HD video)
The weather was fantastic, but the tide was very strong and I spent most of the time drifting, because my anchor kept tripping. Adam was doing well, and Dave was having an absolute stormer of a day - he caught loads of ray, including this Blonde Ray... I was getting more and more tired and frustrated, so I took a break (I almost packed up and went home I have to admit !) - suitably refereshed after my beach food break, I solved my anchor problems and resumed fishing. Adam and Dave said their goodbyes, but urged me to stay... I am glad I did.... because I landed a new personal best bass - over 10lbs. My first ever double figure bass. In the UK, a bass over 10lbs is the holy grail - and the fish of a lifetime for me. I still have not calmed down... There were so many reasons why I shouldn't have caught that fish that day.... fishing is a funny old game... I guess that what makes it so addictive. It was a fantastic looking fish, and yes, it did taste great on the BBQ ! (and there's still plenty left)

Great catch! Thanks for the story.
That looks like a European Sea Bass, which is the same family as our Striped Bass species. |
