Thanks for the tip, I'm very interested in learning how to use a DSLR better. I've had the camera for a week and only using the "auto" mode so far. I've been a point and shoot guy, this is my first camera that won't fit in my pocket.

Try P mode, which allows you to set the shutter speed.

For more bird photos check out this guys site.
There is a pic of a Pergrin chasing a Pelican that is realy cool.
The Pergrin's that he shoots are nesting above Blacks.

Very cool photos. I never really got bird watching, but I'm starting to get it. Birds of prey are fascinating.
