Bob has it right for installing the wheels. Just make sure you do this before loading items on your kayak

As for taking them off, raising the stern so the wheels are off the ground normally works, but occasionally they do not fall out of the holes very easily. While it takes some stretching, while lifting the kayak by the stern, I use one leg to knock the wheels down and out of the holes. Not very elegant, but it works.

Just be careful with the scupper holes, I got a crack in mine and almost sank!

well i am lazy and usually have gear that is unsecured on my deck. so what i do is just wade out into the water just far enough (about 18" or 2ft) and just slide them under the boat, line up the rods with the holes and and then bring the wheels down and seat the wheels in the scubbers. sometimes it can take a bit of effort to get those wheels down, but it lets me wheel my yak right out of the water.

You can also open the rear hatch and get an extra gripping or lifting hold...
