La Jolla 8-22 late report
I arrived at the launch at 5:45 to see the squid floatilla and kayaks coming in with some nice WSB. I'm thinking to myself with a full moon and the squid bite this would end in skunk if i was going out by myself. Josh showed up at 6 and wondered out loud what the hell we were doing here at this hour. He said we would look around for a couple hours because we will see the fish after noon. He called his shot. While making bait just after noon we saw a yellow chasing makerel out of the water. I was not prepared and my cast was late. We keep working the area and have a bait in the water and Josh is statnding on his PA spotting fish. Nest thing i know he yells cast off to 11 oclock. He cast and I manage to cast right over his as he hooks up. I turn to the right to untangle and he hands me his 100J with the fish on. Now I'm not a hook and hand kind of guy, but i always wanted to try this rod. I'm bringing this fish in and the gaff is between my legs and I think I have everything in contol when Josh ask what do you have going on? Turns out my bait rod in the holder has a fish on and is wrapped aroud my other rods. Josh swooped in and grabbed the bait rod and I'm thinking cool he will take care of that one. He got it untangled and put it back in the my rod holder! Now I have the fish on his jig stick gaffed and he says put on the clicker, put it in free spool and he swings in and grabs fish and rod and I'm on to the onther fish. That non comes to the yak easy and the skunk is off. I farmed another one shortly after(bummer because i always wanted to release 1) and saw more yellows in the water in 1 day than i have in the 4 or 5 years I've fished La Jolla. Thanks for a great day |

Nothing like having two problems at once!
Yeah, looks like you've fished Lajolla alright. What I dont understand is why Josh didnt put you through two hours of torture Making you hold both up at the same time like a trophy stack so he could take one of those pics he obsesses about!
What an exciting day to be able to fight 3 of these great fish when half the pb fleet is scratching just for even one. Congratulations! Looks like the young lady is pretty excited to have fresh YT for dinner. See you on the water. Chris |

Two for you, Wow.
I'm putting my quarters in a jar labeled Josh, in a few more months I'll have enough. Love the pictures and the smile in the last one, what a bonus shot. Congrats. |

Thanks for the props, Todd!
Todd's no slouch and one hell of a fisherman in his own right. I knew you were'nt the hook and hand kind of guy, but thanks for giving the Calstar 100J a try. I should offer the incentive that if you can keep that rod tip out of the water the charter's free (anyone who's pulled on this blank knows that four feet of the rod is under water the whole time ).
There's only so many fish I can see before I make a cast. Call me trigger happy . It was beautiful out there, pretty much just Todd and I, all alone---surrounded by our 20-30lb friends. And it's a good thing for photo shop, too, because---there's no fish in La Jolla!
