Hamachi fest

finally have a spare minute to make this post...
Aug 17-22, 5 Day on the Searcher...
this was another one of those trips...
you know the one...
it's the one your buddy tells you about and says....
"you shoulda been here yesterday"....
this trip was one of those "yesterday" trips...
I think if I ever get a boat...
I'm gonna name it "YESTERDAY"...

the trip was our annual 5-day on the Searcher...
My father-in-law Roy, Mark Pierpont, and our friend Terry Regan, and I set out on this adventure...

there was only one downfall to this trip...
we got ripped off for two days of fishing due to the lack of any offshore critters...sure...now this week they're out there...
but who's complaining...
normally a trip like this would have 4 solid days of fishing...
but this year we B-lined it staight to Cedros Island...
28 hour boat ride...(I hate that part, drives me nuts)...
for only 2 1/4 days of fishing...but it was world class for sure...

we arrived at Cedros about 4:30 pm on Wed and fished 'till dark...
there were about 19 fish caught that afternoon...
I nailed three big ones all on the surface iron...
just so happened I got a new personal best three times
that afternoon...previously, my PB YT was 31lbs...
I got a 36, 38, and 40lber this day....unreal...
Mark and I had two different doubles on the iron...here's one of them...
both of these fish were 36 lbers...

Roy managed a 36 lber that afternoon...

here's my new PB 40.8 lbs...

that night, Captain Art tells us we need to get up a 3:00 am to make bait...I think WTF? make bait? are you friggin' kidding? I paid for this?...
but he days he has a hunch we'll kill it with green maks if we make 'em...
turns out he was right....maks were the hot ticket...
there were three other boats around us the next day....
they had pretty good counts...somewhere in the 60's was their counts for the day...we...on the otherhand...had 172 YT for the day...
the maks kept the fish around our boat...
I had 9 fish the second day...6 on surface iron and 3 on greenies...
Terry with a nice one...

I hust happened to be walking up to the bow when I see Pierpont bendo...again....
so I busted out the camera...
check out this sequence...

nice fish Mark!!!

me 'n' Terry bendo...

Roy showing the weight of these fish...

just another YT...

the tally 16 YT for an average of 31.6 lbs....
not too shabby....
10 fish ate the iron, 6 on bait...(only 'cause they made me get up at 3 am both days to make it)...

parting shot of new PB...

Mark was tied for third place in the JP with a 41.6lber...
the JP was 43 (the guy on the left)
and the guy in the middle got secong place and tied with Mark for third...
the halibut was just over 43lbs and that guy did not get in the JP...
too bad, he woulda one it....

George's halibut...

I now have a year supply of Hamachi! (and then some....)

I can't wait 'till next year!!!

Really great report! Nice grade of fish. I would be happy to help make that year supply more like a 6 month supply...

Great report! Those are some nice yellows. I was on a 5 day on the Searcher in July and we got into to yellows, but no where near as big. Great Photos! The Searcher has an awesome Captain and crew!

Daymn! Those are some slugs! Congrats on the 40 lb club I hear you have to be really skilled, or sexy, or something like that to join that group of elite anglers...
Good call on the long motor out there. I went on my tuna trip this year 2 wks ago, unfortunately all I got is rockfish
On the bright side my trip was well funded with a $475 jackpot ling

Thanks for the report

Nice...Gotta love the Searcher. Anyone who has not ridden that boat should definitely book a trip some time. Only thing they need to do is get rid of that darn "canopy" over the rod holders to make room for the jig sticks! Nice slugs!

we are a match made in heaven....
Mark is just as sick and obsessed with fishing as I am....

yet....I'm afraid if we tied the knot, it would just ruin or relationship...
