Local Lakes

Since I am new to SD I haven't spent much time bass fishing the local lakes because I have been spending all of my time down in the bays. I was wondering if any of the local lakes are any good for large mouth or small mouth out of a kayak. Thanks for the responses.

Miramar lake is supposed to be good for large mouth bass. Will cost you a whole dollar to launch your yak there. I have not fished there yet.

There are a few that you can hit up and they all are very good for Bass. Otay being the best, Murray is a small lake with some nice lunkers, you also have El Cap, and Miramar. Otay and El Cap are both very large lakes but I know a lot of people that like to go there. Personally I have had better results at Murray and Otay.

By far the best is Lake Barrett for pure bassing fun. If you can get a
ticket. It's a whole day thing though. 20-30 bass days are not
uncommon, they are generally up to 4 pounds.

See the SDfish.com Lake Barrett board.

I've fished the other lakes in SD extensively as well, and they can be
decent or tough. Calico fishing in the kelp always seems to be my
option instead

Do the bass-math here:

Sweet Barrett pic. We used to sneak in there back in the 70's. The bass fishing was insane back when it was closed for years. Yeah I know, but I'm from El Cajon so it's expected. Had to watch out for the armed guard back then but you didn't need a ticket.........

El Cap has been good to me on the Kayak this year. Barrett kinda sucks this year. I did worse there than I have been at El Cap (and we had the high count on the lake that day)

Ed I love the new Signature. I forgot about that until I saw your post. Awesome.
