SD Bay 3\13\10
On route to meet them South of the bridge my FF goes off at 33 feet just outside the moored boats. So I drop and after a quick tug, tug, BOOM and I bring up my first hali of the year. Only 15 inches but still fun. Then I make my way over to Matt and we talk about how slow it's been and decide to make a move over to the 15 and 16 markers on the bridge and I get slammed on the retrieve by a monster spottie. Drop a few more times and could only get this pesky guy. Decided to call it a day after snapping my rod in half on who knows what. All in all a nice day and got to fish with some fellow yakkers.

As for the broken rod, I think it was a big spottie that wrapped me in some eel grass and I thought I had enough rod to pull it out. Lesson learned.

Thanks for the report!
Bummer about the rod, but don't throw it away! You can cut off the guides (sometimes you can even salvage the reel seat and grip) and wrap a new blank.
