no, not off limits. I paddle over there all the time...it's all good provided you have a base fishing permit ($5 for whole year) available to any civilian, sponsorship not required.

Guess I should get one of those. If anyone ever needs sponsorship to get on base for fishing purposes, let me know and if I am not busy I can do. would also love to plan an outing with someone other than me, myself and I since the guy I used to go with is currently deployed. Oh yeah, the bay is not off limits you just need one of those $5 things which I still need to find out where to get. BTW There is a really great launch ramp on the base that you can park next to if you get on the base.

Base permit
For base permits go to the base Game warden. You have to show your fishing license and fork over your 5 bucks. The base game warden office is located on Basilone Rd. From Vanedgrift Rd. turn onto basilone rd and follow for about 1/4 mile. Take your first right. I forget what area that is exactly, but just follow that road and it will pretty much lead you straght there. Hope that helps.
