MLPA Roadshow update/what to expect
Open House Format Each open house will take place between 5:30-8:30 p.m. The open houses are designed to be informal and do not require the public to attend all three hours. We encourage SCRSG members to remain for the duration of each open house. A series of 10-12 stations will be set up throughout the room including: • Station 1, Welcome & Sign-in - Attendees will receive a handout that gives an overview of the open house format, including a layout of the stations. • Station 2, Overview - Will include information on the MLPA Initiative process, including outreach materials. This station will also include poster-size regional maps of each of the six draft MPA proposals evaluated in Round 2 and serve as an overview of the study region. • Stations 3-10, Subregional Maps - Will display subregional maps for all six Round 2 proposals. Depending on the given open house location, multiple stations will be allocated to the specific subregion in which the open house is located (i.e., the Carlsbad open house will include three stations all dedicated to Subregion 7). • Station 11, Bilingual - Spanish-language translators will be available along with translated informational materials. • Station 12, Comments - A number of centrally located tables will be made available for the public to sit and write their comments. There will also be several laptop computers available for the public to submit their comments electronically. What if members of your constituency can’t attend one of the public open houses? If members of the public are not able to attend the open houses, they may also provide feedback by sending a message to MLPAComments@resources.ca.gov or by mail to MLPA Initiative, c/o California Natural Resources Agency, 1416 Ninth Street, Suite 1311, Sacramento, CA 95814. Comments will be most helpful if received no later than July 19, 2009 so that they can be distributed to the SCRSG and BRTF members prior to the start of Round 3. A downloadable comment form will be made available on the MLPA Initiative website for those members of the public unable to attend the open houses. It is our goal to have mostly new faces attend each open house location. Each of the open houses will be identical in format and content; members of the public need only attend one of them to provide input. It is important to emphasize that these open houses are designed to accept feedback specific to the Round 2 draft proposals. Attendees should be prepared to contribute to the conversation and focus on how well the draft proposals meet the goals of the MLPA and achieve cross interest support.
