Keep your feet in the kayak...
These fish are well known to eat in the dark and have some nasty teeth . We've all heard the stories of Great White Sharks, Seven Gills, Makos, and the who could deny the population of Thresher Sharks in La Jolla this time of year. Plenty of sharp objects below us at all times, so don't tempt fate. Remember to quickly bleed your fish and properly secure them on deck. Even though I haven't seen Knothead in a while, the possibility of a Sealion ripping your catch from your frightened hands is quite real. Especially if you're not paying close attention, maybe while the adrenaline is flowing with a giant fish attached to your gaff. This isn't written to scare anyone, especially you guys new to the sport. With a name like "The pond" kayak fishing in places like La Jolla is extremely safe for the most part. This is just a reminder to have respect for mother ocean and be prepared for the unexpected. Just in case you're wondering, yes, that's the teeth marks from a large shark... Keep your feet in the kayak.

Wow. Is that shark bite fresh (as in while you were fighting the fish) or pre-existing? Just seeing a fish like that would probably be enough to get me to keep my limbs inside.
Thanks for the tip. |

I can't wait for the first Trophy WSB pic with the Shark still attached.
They are thick this year. I'm thinking of making a non barbed spear like they use in Hawaii. |

so are you suggesting that we look into chainmail waders if we want to hang our feet over? ha ha!
nice fish, looks like spring is here and everything is hungry out there. hopefully those fish with teeth don't like the taste of plastic. |
