Alright AT. You've been indulged. Almost everything you think you are breaking ground with and asking has been covered in various forums especially this one. If you spent a little time either a) searching or b) paddling it would all fall into place. Not trying to be a dick, just pointing out there is a welth of info from others that have had the same questions when starting out.
Yes you can catch yt off Dana Point. Summer schoolie yellows generally move up the coast with the warming water. SB and Morro Bay yakers have their shots, even. Occasionally the OR albacore fleet even picks them up. Late Summer, start watching for them.

i'm new to the YT as well. just picked up the SX 2spd with MC and graftech 8ft 12-20lb rod at the Fred hall. when do you plan on heading down LJ? might m ake sense to meet up.
