So disappointing. As a 35 year Hunter and 53 year Fisherman, I have seen too much publick access taken away....and all legally and covertly. After the 2003 and 2007 fires, pipe gates and fences appeared where they were not before, no publick comment allowed, blocking vehicle access on Cleveland National Forest Land. MLPA's were rammed down our throats with little regard to publick comment and twisted *science-data*, blocking fishing access permenantly.
Our Publick land and access should Never be sold to other countries and one would hope Trump will force the sale of the Publick & Private lands from the Chinese back to the US Government and opened back-up to US. All this giant land-grab boils down to greed and once it is sold, we will never see it again. Thanks for sending out that link. Pinhead Out! |

Isn't the reason the public land sale came up is because Trump needs the money to pay for tax cuts for the rich?
Why would Trump force "China" to sell land back to US and where would we get the money to pay for it? Using the link provided by Monstafish and drilling down, I see where there are already swaths of land carved out of the public lands. For who and why was these parcels of land already carved out? I say that because sale of public land has been going on for centuries already and this topic right now is being used as a distraction. During the previous Trump administration, the restrictions to several fisheries were lifted. We were able to keep Yellow Eye rockfish and other previously restricted fish. Trump stated at the time there were other fisheries he was opening up for commercial fishing also. I agree "science data" is definitely suspect. I do know the California coast fishery is healthy for the most part and evidenced by the fish I catch. Quote:

I was trying to keep this apolitical and really about fishing and hunting access because I know we can all agree on this, but yes, this is all in an effort to justify a tax cut that will lock in permanent tax cuts for the rich while the lower income bracket ones expire quickly and for the really poor their burdens go up because they'll likely lose medicaid and have to pay more for healthcare which they can't afford. Ideally, they would give an increased child tax credit, lower taxes on low income families and eliminate the tax cut for the rich. Even the guy who invented trickle down economics now admits it does not work. The non partisan congressional budget office says that unless we experience a massive boom in the economy which seems very unlikely at this point, the national debt even with selling $100 billion in land (which will go at less than $430 an acre BTW), taking millions off medicaid, cutting medicare and snap will still balloon the deficit $3-5 trillion.
For those who doubt what I'm saying and want to say oh another liberal spewing numbers, here's a wall street journal article written by one of the most right wing senators there is https://www.wsj.com/opinion/the-ugly...iuCPHupA%3D%3D Some of you voted against this some voted for it, it's all of our jobs to stop the government from doing bad things that don't benefit the American people. This is the first amendment in action. By the way, you want to get really mad? They're eliminating the roadless wilderness rule so when they sell of the land to millionaires and billionaires, they can build roads on the public dime into their private enclaves before they sell them and lock them off. |

China has strategically purchased land around/near US Military installations, which is potentially a National Security issue. In my opinion, this should have never been allowed to happen. Now, our government can be nice and pay china fair market value, yes, taking taxpayer money to do so, but what is the cost if we do not do it and China spies on US at these Military insallations ? Also, our government can just take the land back under Federal eminent domain laws, citing potential National Security risks, end of story. Overall, we need to protect our country Militarily and our citizens. In my opinion, China and other countries should not own US land, as most do not have our best interest at heart. |

Fully agree on this one. They will definitely be buying and mining our land if this goes forward.

Looks like we dodged a bullet.
Mike Lee pulled his Publick Land Sale bill two days ago. He said he could not guarantee the land would not fall into unintended hands after changes required by the parliamentarian. Personally, I believe he pulled it back, because received so much heat from other GOP and constituants and I believe he will try it again, if given the chance. I am relatively certain, his political career is severely damaged. I used to like him, but not anymore. I hope this was a career ending move for him. |

We have a temporary reprieve as it's been removed! While they're pointing to other reasons, we know it was political suicide to move forward with this and it was the voice of the people that stopped it. I will circle back when Lee tries again cause I believe this is his 3rd attempt.
There's a bunch of other bad stuff still in there. If you're on medicare or medicaid, they're still coming after your healthcare and will do nothing to keep you from going bankrupt if you get sick and have no insurance but that's a subject for another forum. I think we can all agree we don't want higher debt though so why give billionaires tax cuts? Off my soap box, let's talk fishing! |
