Sons first Mahi(s)

Took my son out yesterday for his first mahi and he got 2! He would have had 3 if I wasn’t such a bum with the gaff. He let me reel one in so I beat the skunk as well.
Good times on the inflatable Kaboat!

We got some video but it’s not great and I’m learning to edit better so it’ll be awhile before I have a video up.

Great job, hopefully you're boy is going to be fishing in the future!

On the other hand; I commend you for continuously taking that offshore regardless of what others say. It'll probably never let you down, but if it does.. say goodbye to absolutely everything you took with you.

That being said, what type of handheld do you use?

Well, all 5 chambers would have to deflate to lose everything.

I use a Cobra handheld and have an EPIRB.

You need to make a gaff....

With a hook like this.
Maybe not safe in an inflatable

When I fished off shore with an outboard motor

It became natural to look for water spraying from the water pump and replacing it before it failed and you burn your motor up, also debris can plug the line too.
If you start to notice a difference vibration in the motor, it could be saltwater has ate through the water passages and got to the bearings on the crank. Your first rebuild. I made it in from the 55 spot on the 9, glad i was close. 2cycle with out getting stuck the first time.
The second time I made it in with my kicker back up motor at night fishing Zungia jetty.Think I was hoop netting lobster. Good luck to you.

Your are know different

Kid looks happy--fish would look bigger with a smaller gaff
