Wheels + Bait tank on Hobie

Just got my first fishing kayak, a Hobie PA14, and will be taking it out on a shakedown session tomorrow on Mission Bay.

However, in the not too distant future, will try my hand at heading out to LJ.

While it seems most people drive on the sand to launch their yaks, and I will probably try it, I want to consider all options.

For those that find parking first, and then wheel their yaks to the launch, what do you do with the wheels if you also have the live bait tank using the scuppers behind the seat? I tried putting a bungie for the wheels behind the bait tank, but it seems less than reliable.

I lock my wheels up to the wooden fence/pilings at the launch.

Congratulations on your new Kayak. I have had a PA14 since I started -- super comfortable. We have the same issue on the East coast. It usually makes more sense to do all the unloading at the beach, leave the yak, and take the wheels when going to find a free parking spot which is sometimes many blocks from the beach. When planning a drift trip, I will dump the kayak off in darkness on one beach, drive to a parking spot near the intended landing area, then ride a bike back to the launch area where it is locked. At the end of the trip, the bike is later picked up on the way home.
