Newport Bait Barge ?

Hi Anyone see NP Bait Barge Back ?

One of my friends informed me bait barge back last weekend , so I tried to give a try Newport last Wen4/7 . But right before unloading my kayak , I looked from Coast Guard Station parking.....bait barge wasn't there at the harbor mouse
So I went to Dana Point fishing luckily I caught 27 inch halibut

I talk to my friend about it , he called bait barge and they even send him gps location and looks like they moved to inside of harbor

I don't know what's going on
Anyone see bait barge there ?

damn...That sucks if they moved it all the way in the harbor. Totally the opposite direction from the launch and the mouth of the harbor. I wonder if that was intentional to stop serving kayakers.

More likely it was moved to service the boats out of Davey's and Newport Landing. Plus, when it gets busy I imagine all the boats lined up would block the harbor entrance or at the least cause issues.

Not to mention with the right swell the mouth can be treacherous.

Looks like the new location is right at the ol white seabass grow pen. Not the worst spot in the harbor for it

They started dredging the harbor recently. I heard theyre gonna dredge the entrance this summer too and thats why they moved it from the usual spot.

went on the catalina flyer this past weekend and can confirm the bait barge is fairly close to the sport boat fleet and wsb pens. saw the dredger as well and it was dredging a little ways from the coast guard station.

On a side note, I heard that when dredging happens, sometimes halibut bite can be wfo.
