Ask Siri for the current sunrise time, and you can usually launch about 30 minutes before that. aka First Light.
If you are around traffic (particularly coming out of the bays), use a light of some sort that's visible in all directions so you don't get run over. I hang an LED camp light off the gaff point spring protector in my back pole holder. Costco has 3-packs for about $12. ![]()

Another relevant point: launching at first light is usually the easiest time to consistently catch bait on the way to our first target fishing area.
