I agree with this 100%! I always stow my rods horizontally, and remove my reels and place them into dry storage. I also remove my FF and stow it away. I try to remove and stow everything that could get lost or broken. Is it overkill....? Perhaps. But you never know when you're going to get rolled. I've invested way too much into my gear to take chances.
