Photo directions and CPR Tourney Tips...
Make a left and go through the parking kiosk...the gate should open automatically after 5:15am. Make a right turn at the Marina office building and continue along the sea wall until you get to the yacht club The parking barrier should be open or on auto-open...find a parking spot and go towards the big gate...our check-in pop-up will be just to the right of the gate... The ramp for the docks is straight ahead from the check-in...it plenty wide to accommodate Pro Anglers...Bring your wheels...! The launch dock is super easy as its slanted down towards the water for easy entry and removal... The KHYC is a beautiful facility and the staff is really helpful and friendly...white tablecloths for a bunch of kayak anglers...I love it...LOL The shaded areas on this map show the LEGAL areas in King Harbor to fish... Don't fall off into the deep water of the Redondo underwater canyon....LOL...! Lastly...here's a wind forcast from Weather Underground for Saturday morning... It looks like the wind is building pretty quickly...so if you're planning on fishing the outside spots, my advice is to get it done early...! Saturday's Wind forcast: 7am. - 2mph E 8am. - 2mph SSW 9am. - 3mph SW 10am. - 5mph WSW 11am. - 9mph WSW 12 noon - 10mph WSW 1pm. - 11mph WSW

CPR TOURNEY TIPS...
This is a copy of a letter sent to all the participants...
Hello Tournament Anglers For those of you that are new to the CPR method, here are some tips and info for the upcoming tournaments… IF YOU DON'T HAVE A "HAWG TROUGH" PLEASE CONTACT ME AND I'LL SEE WHO HAS THEM AVAILABLE IN YOUR AREA. PLEASE DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO DISCOVER YOUR PHONE AND THE APP ARE NOT GETTING ALONG… IT'S NOT AS EASY AS IT SOUNDS WHILE OUT ON THE WATER TO HOLD YOUR PHONE AND THE HAWG TROUGH AND THE WRIGGLING FISH. IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO BRING A DIGITAL CAMERA AS A BACKUP…WE CAN ALWAYS VIEW THE PHOTOS BACK AT THE YACHT CLUB IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE APP OR WITH YOUR PHONE. ***IF USING A DIGITAL CAMERA…BE SURE YOU ARE IN LINE TO HAVE YOUR PHOTOS VIEWED BEFORE 1PM. ** IT'S IMPORTANT THAT YOU ALL SUBMIT AT LEAST ONE PHOTO TO THE APP BEFORE THE TOURNEY...(even those of you that have participated before) I'LL SEND YOU A REPLY TO YOUR SUBMISSION AND THAT WAY WE'LL BOTH KNOW THE APP IS WORKING FOR YOU. SAFETY: We will have two safety boats on the water monitoring channels 68 and 16. If you have an emergency contact Redondo Harbor Patrol FIRST on channel 16…then contact tournament control on channel 68 if possible. Your safety is our number one concern, so please know your limits and the limits of your watercraft…if it is a rough day outside the harbor and the Red Flag is up at the Harbor Patrol Office we will close the outside to fishing and slighty change the rules for minimum size. IN THE EVENT OF BAD WEATHER, YOU WILL BE ALERTED TO ANY RULE CHANGES THE MORNING OF THE TOURNEY AT CHECK-IN. IF YOU PLAN TO GO TO ROCKY POINT OR TO PALOS VERDES KELP, WE ASK YOU TO PLEASE FILE A "CONFIDENTIAL" TRIP REPORT WHEN YOU CHECK-IN IN THE MORNING. This way our safety boat will know to look out in those areas for kayakers in the afternoon once the wind picks up. The extended weather forecast calls for more June Gloom cloudiness with a calm morning and then the wind will build as the morning goes on….So…PLEASE KNOW YOUR LIMITS…IT'S ONLY A KAYAK TOURNAMENT…! TOURNEY INFO: There are 4 divisions in the Battle of the Bays tournament for Saturday June 9thth in King Harbor. The CPR Bass division is won by submitting photos of the 3 longest Bass on your hawg trough measuring board. These photos must be submitted before 1pm to be eligible. You can use the iAngler app or a digital camera. If you have a smart phone I urge you to use it for your submissions as the digital camera method will slow the judging down at the end of the day. Please bring a USB cord to download your camera photos or remove your SD card...please only submit your three best fish on the digital camera. It's a good idea to bring a digital camera as a backup…we can always view the photos back at the yacht club if you have problems with the app or you phone. Be sure you are in line to have your photos viewed before 1pm. On the iAngler app you can submit as many photos as you like, and the app will automatically give me your top three fish at the end of the event. You can also check the leader board at any time and see where you are in the standings. I'll go over a lot more on the rules at the captain's meeting this Saturday. The rules can be viewed at both the iAngler page and at the www.battleofthebays.com webpage. PRIZES: 1st place will get a $500 gift card from Turners Outdoorsman 2nd Place will get a $250 gift card from Okuma 3rd Place will get a $125 gift card from Promar/AHI 4th place will get a $75 gift card from Hookup Baits The Longest Bass will get a One Cool Tuna CNC Iron. This fish is also in the running for the Bixpy Jet Kit, which will be awarded at the last event to the angler with the longest bass in all 4 events. The Heaviest fish weighed (no Bass no Sharks or Rays) will win 100% of the cash collected for that event. It is $20 to enter the Big Fish Side Pot and you can pay as you check-in or with PayPal on the iAngler page. The Mity Might contest is also a $20 entry and you get to keep the rod and reel. The prize to the longest fish caught on a Mity Might and photo submitted is a Roody Reaper Graphite Rod. The Heaviest Rockfish (no Lingcod) caught with a AHI product will win a $100 selection of AHI jigs. The Heaviest Bag of 3 rockfish will win a carved Abalone Lingcod from Bob the Bone Carver. There is no additional fee to participate in the Rockfish division. IANGLER TOURNEY TIPS: Mike at the iAngler app says... "I highly recommend that you ask all of the anglers utilizing the iAngler app to log a catch using the app. They can submit previous catches or take photos of anything. The point is to have everyone submit a catch to make sure they're comfortable with the app and it's working properly. Another suggestion is that you can actually invite the anglers to start practicing now. They can submit catches to the tournament right now. Those catches will be flagged as being submitted before the start of the tournament, and those catches will be cleared with all of the other practices catches when the tournament director run's the "Remove All Records' process." I recommend during this test time, that you submit at least two photos...as I'll accept one and then reject one with comments so that you can see how the system works. Getting a confirmation on the receipt of your photos is very important and means that your photos are being judged and submitted or rejected. You'll need a hawg trough for these CPR bass events. You can purchase one at OEX Sunset Beach or at Austin Kayaks online as well as Bass Pro Shops. Pease add a black marker to the inch markings on the trough if it is not already highlighted to assist the judging of your fish. The tournament may be won by as little as ¼" so please make it as easy to judge as possible. VIDEO TIPS: I've got a few YouTube here videos that might help you with the CPR format of our tournament… This first one shows some examples on how to measure on the water…Be sure to watch the end, where the fish jumps off the board…LOL ! https://youtu.be/qyVLD_ImnOIhttps://...be/qyVLD_ImnOI These next two videos discuss and demonstrate the proper way to line your hawg trough…Remember this tourney will probably be won by 1/4"…If it's difficult for the judges to see where your fish lies on the board they will always "round down" on the size…so the easier you make it for the judges to see the accurate size of your fish the better your chances of winning! https://youtu.be/2IUicVkvYF4https://...be/2IUicVkvYF4 https://youtu.be/v6rDLsA1_uohttps://...be/v6rDLsA1_uo Launching: The launch is really easy at the King Harbor Yacht club…it's a dock launch at the bottom of a big wide ramp and the parking is free. YOU CAN LAUNCH ANYWHERE IN THE HARBOR BUT YOU MUST CHECK-IN AT THE YACHT CLUB AND BE AT THE SHOTGUN START AT 7AM. PARKING: THE GATES FOR THE PARKING LOTS WILL AUTOMATICALLY OPEN AT 5:15am ON JUNE 9th PLEASE DO NOT BLOCK THE GATES BEFORE 5:15am !!! Please get your friends to sign-up now...www.battleofthebays.com Jim Salazar - Tournament Director 310-901-4616
