I like to think of it more as a result of pre-fishing and sticking to
my plan. ![]() I sprinted to get to the pier to stay ahead of the crowd, made a single sardine and paddled to the fishing grounds and began trolling where I'd seen fish in the days prior. I'd seen fish in LJ every day this past week and hooked up Wed, Thurs, and Friday. Farmed the fish on Wed, but I knew there were more fish there. I was checking out what appeared to be a dark cloud. As I was reeling in my bait to check for weeds, I saw a dark shadow part from the cloud and instantly my reel was singing. The fish pulled me closer to shore putting me at risk of getting pounded by the surf, so I hung my foot over the side to turn my yak Westbound. The fish turned and started towing me out to sea. I happened to find the only kelp paddy and my line went right through it. The Spectra did it's job and began to cut kelp while I continued to pull clumps off. Seven minutes later my lucky catch was on the game clip. By 6:30am I was done for the day...and lovin' it! The Steve Moyer Memorial Tournament was a great time. Many thanks to Jim Sammons, Matt Moyer, and Brent Torgeson for putting this together. YakTackle.com was only one of many generous sponsors for a great cause. Looking forward to next year.
