Send the Bonito down and see what happens.... might get v'exciting, v'fast
otherwise you'll never know, people do well especially on halibut in the bays with anything from plastics, crankbaits, chovies, sardines and macs.... maybe small bones never know! *spicy mayo poke looks good! Last edited by YakHanded; 11-28-2017 at 01:38 PM. Reason: whoops! |

Flylining bay
I have had a little success doing that in the bay this year but compared to plastics or bottom action it has been slow for me. 7-8 trips dragging macs, caught a 5' shark and a few random bass that take 8-10" Macs, oh and 1 boat with several other close calls with ignorant boaters. Just be very careful boats pay 0 attention on the north side and are very ok motoring up to within feet of you.
Good Luck! ![]() |

Thanks for the feedback everyone, it is much appreciated. I'll try it out next time I catch a mac and see what happens. I got a taste of the boaters not caring about "personal space" first hand already. I just had to sit tight and let the PB pass by as the Navy Veterans had their lines out and I couldn't pass through without playing chicken with the PB. Not my idea of fun, but it all worked out. As I stated before, I'll keep posting updates when I go out. I can't promise anything exciting, but I can promise more updates.

In the bay it would be better to fish a mack on the bottom than on a fly line. There just weren't many top and mid water predictors big enough to eat a bait that big.
