Only difference is the newest drives have a cable to flip to reverse. Older ones you have to pull and manually reverse it

HUH...?
I believe only the 2017 models will have the new 180 drive available.

Just read this from a Hobie post.
The MirageDrive 180 will be standard with all 2017 model year Mirage kayaks, including the legendary Outback and award-winning Pro Anglers. 2017 model year kayaks are slated to begin shipping in October 2016. The MirageDrive 180 is retrofitable to existing MirageDrive kayaks and is expected to be available as a stand-alone accessory by mid-year 2017. |

You can pull an old mirage drive out and put it in backwards or you can get a 2017 model and it will come with the 180 drive. You don't really need reverse but it has definitely handy for certain fishing situations like working specific structure and pulling a fish out of structure.

Bow in to the rocks, boiler rocks, kelp, or kelp patty, cast, set hook and reverse like you mean it. Hopefully you get him out of the structure. This may be a GAME changer, for those who fish heavier structure. Tight Lines.
