After having used the drive for a couple of weeks now...it's not just awesome to have reverse...it's really awesome to have reverse! As far as speed goes...I really don't think you get more speed, as in max speed out of this drive, but you definitely get lighter pedals out of it, which translates into being able to maintain a higher average speed. Also you are able to maintain that higher average speed for much longer periods.
