Last time I was at the headlands kelp bed I used a Danielson to float a bait 30' down in 40' of water just skimming the top of the short kelp with out getting snagged up even once. So no, the kelp isn't too healthy right now.

A couple years of warm water and big swells last winter did a number on the kelp. Cant speak about Dana but LJ kelp had been severely reduced. Been fishing LJ consistently all year and last Sunday was the first time I actually saw some stringers. Not healthy looking at all. It's still there but the tops have been taken off and its not growing back. We get s couple of cold/normal years and it will recover. Mike
