Newport Harbor 7/25

Took the Thresher out to the Harbor today, had plans of heading south to CDM but stayed inside instead. The swell would pump every once and a while and send in a few large rollers peaking over the jetty on the Wedge side and slamming the inside jetty on the South side. No complaints here though, caught a just shy legal Cuda on a 1 oz Crocodile at the bait barge that was a fun fight on the bass gear. Then started to nail the Spotties when the tide picked up. They were SLAMMING swimbaits, the Croc, even 5" jerkshads. They were hitting the plastics em like they owed them $$$. Lost a nice bass today but thats is the name of the game. Best part of the day was the wind never seemed to pick up. A gust here or there and that was it. Best day I have had in Newport in a while.

Look at the gut on this pig!

Nice bass and always nice when the wind doesn't blow. How many bass did you end up with?

Nice work on the spots. I was out there at the barge with family for the sunset bite. Just finished cleaning up now. We ended up with a misc. bag of 40 or so bass. No legals, and most were small but fun!

I fished there last Friday. The water temp was freezing, so the fishing was slow

I must have finished the day with either 7 or 8 spotties and one ok sized calico. Most of which were 12" + and had fat stomachs.

Thanks, I was wondering if it might be worth skipping Dana for NPH on Friday.

Ed I would personally fish Dana. Much better chance at running into a 3 lb. plus fish there. I need to get out of the harbor, good fights are few and far between. This Sunday I am aiming towards La Jolla. No Mas Spotties for Me.

Looks like I'm going solo Fri, so I think I'll hit NPH. Thanks for the info.
