When I went to Morro bay a couple of years back I did not hook into any of them. But, it's not a big deal considering that the harbor is teeming with baby rockfish. If you grab an UL, pack of grubs, and some 1/8-3/8oz jig heads you'll have a ton of fun.
If the sport boats head out I'd suggest giving that a shot too. Those shallow water rockfish along the cencal are so unpressured. I did ask a couple deckhands too on the Fiesta out of Virgs about Calicos around their usual spots, but they've never caught them, sheephead and barracuda have been though. Compared to SD bay it's small! Ya in rocky areas you can get them from shore!
The road to the rock, break wall and off the t pier! |
