What is this fish ?? Fish ID question.

Super nice day today in LJ.
Plenty of baits, bird, but no yellow for me.

Got this fish on cut squid , fat and heavy.
Didn't know what is this, so I let it go, must be about 6 or 7 LB, very angry fish .
Anyone know what is this ?

BSB, good thing you let it go. Very touchy subject but I think its not even supposed to be taken out of the water.

http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/a...1&d=1461077322

Giant Sea Bass, Stereolepis gigas

The Giant Sea Bass, Stereolepis gigas, whose common Spanish name is pescara, is a member of the family Polyprionidae, the Seabases or Wreckfishes, known as náufragos in Mexico. This fish is also known as the Black Sea Bass. Globally, there are only three species in the genus Stereolepis, of which just one, this species is found in Mexican waters of the Pacific.

Juvi BSB. BSB are getting more common and every angler needs to know what they are and what they look like in all their life stages. In the ocean but I've caught several in SD bay as far back as the bay bridge.

We have 5 species of marine fish in Cali that you can not take, ever. Garabaldi, white shark, gulf and broom tail grouper, and BSB. Mike

Yes be careful out there. You might take a picture of a bsb and hurt a bunch of internet feelings.

Trying to identify fish I don't recognize stresses me out.

It's hard to google this stuff out on my kayak.
