Been a few months now Renting different models Fishing the harbor off of them Thinkin bout what to put our money on Well a friend finds out we in the market Says her uncle has a kayak just sitting in his garage Been there for years Says I can have it Just wants someone to get some use out of it Hell yeah We'll take it So we take it Older model Ocean Kayak Scrambler Perfect for me and my fishing buddy I work the paddle He sits on the hatch facing me workin the rod We launched it outta Newport harbor the first couple times Just paddled around in the harbor No fish no bites no nothin Still good times Went back Monday to try again About to unload my truck but get some advice not to go in Guess there was a sewer leak or something like that So we head back home disappointed Tell my boy we try again Wednesday Figure we try either Huntington or Dana out Let that Newport water clear up a bit Settled on Dana point Launched outta I think baby beach We in the water I ask my navigator where to He says that way We end up at the opening of the harbor Water is calm Weather is nice Never been in open water yet Plenty of people out on the water I figure we good My boy already has his line in the water Had it out since we launched We get out a little Not too far And zzzzzzzzzzzzztttt!!!!! Drag starts screaming His first taste of a drag yellin at him that a fish is on Till this point he's only fished the pier and surf Always gets a bite and just reels it in Not this time Fish is runnin Drag is spinnin He is freaking out Dad help!!! He tryin to hand me the pole Pole tip is bent into the water Just let it run I tell him Pull up on the rod When the noise stops Then lower the rod and reel as fast as you can He does good He listening Zzzzzzzzzttttt Fish takes off again DAD!!! Relax you doin good Just keep doin what I told you Was a good little fight Dont know exactly how long the fight lasted Maybe 5-10 minutes But he gets it in the boat by himself I get the hook out and take a few pics Back in the ocean it went Wish I measured it Was the biggest bonito we caught so far Fought like hell Reminded me of the yellowtails I caught off Catalina Probably what it must of felt like to my boy too Neither one of us could stop smiling We toast our water Pour a little out to our trusty boat Thank the ocean thank the fish Take a swig of water Zzzttt Haha another fish on Another toast and thanks Then Zzzttt It just kept goin like that As soon as we were done releasing and giving thanks We had another fish on 2 bonito and 3 macs The macs came in easy Both bonito put up a good fight They were double or triple the size though My boys happy with himself I'm proud of him We both got smiles from ear to ear Dad we goin back to open ocean You doin anything Friday No I don't think so Then we doin the same thing Same spot Friday Thanks Big Waters Edge Been reading a lot on this site Lots of great info and advice here I'm glad I finally got something to post Even if it's just a story to share Don't know how to put the pictures on the screen though I'll figure it out one day Thanks again |

Congrats to you and your boy on a fun day on the water. Bonita can be fun on light tackle
To post a picture click on the paper clip Then a new page will pop up. Click on choose file. Then locate your photo from your phone. It usually says from library which is where your phone stores your photos. Choose the photo you want then on the right side of the page click on upload. Then on that same page at the bottom click close this window. That will close the second window that popped up and leave you with your original post that will now have the photo added. Complete your post like normal from that point on. You can click at the bottom of your post on the preview post button to make sure your photo uploaded properly. Once you are satisfied then click submit reply and you are done Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by HobieScot; 08-26-2015 at 03:41 PM. |

BWE Post Police Pull OVER!
Here I'll fix it for you....
Thanks guys! I just tried posting a pic from my phone but it won't let me log in. I'm on an iPad right now...Maybe you can only use one device at a time... I'm not sure, I'll keep trying. My writing sucks...I apologize for the shitty way I do it, I'm bad with punctuation marks. So when I need a pause or a stop, I just hit enter. Much easier for my simple mind. Not meant to be a poem... But as happy as we were this morning, we probably coulda wrote a song. Thanks again everyone for taking the time to read and reply. I'll work on getting the pictures posted. Won't be great quality though, We were both freakin out! Way too much excitement happening!

Could have been a private boat that didn't dump correctly Whatever it was I didn't wanna chance my son gettin sick He gets sick easy sometimes And we haven't fallen in off the kayak yet But we do end up wet every time we paddle out |
