Serious? That would be pretty coincidental. It looked fresh. I saw a couple divers right on the edge of the kelp as I was paddling out around 5pm. Can't believe he would still be charging bait after being shot in the stomach... Tough sons of bitches.

Nobody guessed it. I just cut it up and this is what I saw. This thing was attached to its stomach. Gnarly. Now does anyone know what the hell it is? The meat looked perfect though.... Have a lot of people to feed on Saturday. Might it be good cooked? Freeze first? Any thoughts?

I'd err on the side of caution on that one. Looks like a wound with internal parasite that grew big. My opinion is that the meat is infected, small parasites you can't see are the ones that can ruin your GI tract.

Poor fishy.
Why take chances or gross yourself out? Give the poor guy a respectful send off to the afterlife, and catch another healthy fish for your dinner table. Just looking at the pictures kills my appetite. I think I'll make a margarita and give this thread a rest.

Landed a yellow roughly around the same time you caught this one. It also had a mark like that but not quite as bad. 2 experienced friends said it's a lamprey mark.

U shouldn't eat it, I'll be happy to dispose of the meat for ya. Just put it on ice and I'll come pick it up.
Jk. It's a fat body. Normal in fish. Not a parasite. |
