I used map my hike before i got the the HDS 5. Has a cool Ariel fly over of your route after trip is saved. Don't know of a on the water version yet.

google makes a free app called my tracks that integrates with google maps. I will give you a bunch of interesting info.

Try Navionics Boating, I have been using the free app for 6 months but you can buy a upgraded version with more options
