Went offshore LJ on Tuesday. Made it about 8 miles out-similar spot to last trip. Not much bird/tuna action at all. Saw one good foamer that is about it. Not much bait like last time. Long day, must have covered about 20mi. Conditions were pretty good; 5mph wind 3-4 foot swell. Saw lots of blue whales - one came right in front of my kayak and I followed it for a few minutes. It is amazing how glowing neon blue they are in the water. Made macs this time, got a yellow on the mac flyline on the way in at about 5 miles out, off the edge of the canyon, 800+ feet of water, about 17lbs I am guessing. Definitely the farthest out yellow I have caught on the kayak. Trolled Rapalas and mac flyline all day.

I was only a year off.
I thought last year we'd see bft in the canyon.
Seems pretty likely now.

Yanni and I went for a 10 hour offshore from DP, kelps all over in that zone, went WSW then looped N and in plenty of bait balls on the meter, terns grouped up picking at bait, couple smaller porpoise schools but no fish in that area yesterday. Conditions were killer, other than the mixed short interval swell, this was around noon, winds stayed under 10 kts after peaking late morning. Parker obviously thought we knew what we were doing as they slid in and did a drift Water temps were 69-70 green.

Shit I thought you guys would do it.
Im tired of looking at that " plenty of bait balls on the meter, terns grouped up picking at bait, couple smaller porpoise schools but no fish in that area yesterday."
Next up, the Pt Loma crew.

Edit my last time out a cruiser came by w riggers out and trolled around me a couple times like I knew what I was doing. Or he just thought I was a patty.
