I have the PSW 809XHJ and can recommend that model as a surface iron and terrific all around rod. I have a daiwa BG35 on mine.

That rod you mentioned is a bit of a noodle... way too soft to be a surface iron/kelp/yt rod.

I 2nd the 809 XHJ. Beast of a rod. I have a Tranx on mine. I've never whooped a yt so easily before that set up.
