La Jolla 3/28
Hit up La Jolla yesterday with Nickc5. Both of our first times out there. On the drive there I realized I forgot my fish finder batter at home, total bummer! Got there around 6:00 and launch around 6:45. First time surf launching was kind of nerve recking, but made it out. Nick almost went overboard! Went out to make bait, which was really easy to make. Didn't really know which direction to go so we trolled around live macks for a good while. Lots of bass and barracuda action in the kelp and landed a nice rock fish on the salas 6x jr. Nick found a sweet rock structure and landed some nice rock fish there. Wind started to pick up a bit, so we decided to head back in before we get out buts kicked. We then realized that we were 4 miles out fighting the wind and being sea sick did not help at all. Seemed like forever to come back with but hooked up a nice calico trolling and nick had some more rock fish action. No yellowtail for us but a fun trip. Landing was easy and it couple other yakers came up on some YT.

Nice job Spyakker! Are you the guy I ran into at Fisherman's Access in Brea? We talked for a minute at the counter about the whale/boat activity in Newport, and I had my little boy with me. Any way, nice outing in la Jolla!

Btw, fisherman access seems to be the only shop that carry salas 6x and some of the butterfly flat fall lures. Every other ship is sold out including the landings... Odd.

Only had a few left when I grabbed this one. The other is a Damiki Japan back flip jig. Last outing I only snagged a few lizard fish on it. Haven't tried the other one yet. I think they're going to carry more of the Japanese jigs.

Yeah, bought just one at the Fred hall only to drop it on the beach at LJ before launching... Ended up buying one to see what all the hoopla is about.. Good guys in the shop..
Used an old surface iron last week and caught a good size barracuda that went back to fight with another angler.. Quote:

Have you checked out Bob Sands in Van Nuys or Fish 'n' Fools in Northridge for the 6X Jr's? Bob Sands usually has most of the sizes but sometimes selection is thin, Fish 'n' Fools usually has much better quantity from my experience. Not sure about the Flat Fall Jigs. Just FYI; FFY |
