If d a vintage fishing gear forum and ask there. Don't ask about value. Learn a little about your grandpas shared passion and what they collectors think about the reel.

Take a look on ebay and see what recent sales have been. I suspect that it will be worth more to you as your grandfather's reel than you would be able to get for it by selling.

It might be kind nifty to actually fish it and catch a few fish with it. Then you can say you fished with your grandpa's reel.

Never planned on selling it, but as i read how i wrote my post i can see how that can be interpreted. Hes the one who got me into fishing and i will foreve be grateful for it. I dont plan on using it, but as Pinhead said it would be pretty cool to catch some fish with it. When i was referring to worth, it was more so asking if it was a prominent reel of the time or something cutting edge when it was made.

Look for a rod of the same vintage to pair up with it.

It kinda looks like a 302, but I don't see a model number. 302s were made from 1953 - 1977. Following is a list of Mitchell model numbers, production years and production numbers you can refer to. There should be a model number somewhere on the reel or box.

The Fred Hall Show will have a vintage tackle dealer in one of the booths.
Take it to the show and see what it's worth.
