Definitely try it out first. You owe it to yourself to learn reel maintenance 101. If all you end up with is a bag of parts then shoot me a list of what you got.

For me reel service intervals vary. Full tear down at least once a year. If one gets dunked or starts feeling sluggish/gritty/clunky then it gets serviced asap. I do rinse and shake dry after every trip as well as add a drop of oil to the spool bearings. This preventative measure goes a long way at least for me.
