To answer the question about the HDI 50/200 455/800 transducer: it will fit with a 30 second fix. The reason it doesn't fit is because the mounting bracket protrudes too high and hits on plastic without being able to close the lowrance ready "door"
When I bought my elite 5 HDI all I did was cut a couple of inches off the mounting bracket with a Sawzall. Did not change picture on screen one bit. It is a great unit but I'm sure the HDS is as well |

If you like to be able to adjust every setting to dial in your FF to your liking then the Lowrance is the way to go. If you just want to turn on your FF and go fishing then the DF is the way to go.
Also if you mount your FF near your feet then you may want a 7", but if it's closer then a 5" is probably sufficient.
