PA's are not your typical kayak and that's one of the reasons Tony's PA ladder is a must, side mounting a PA isn't impossible but I can assure you that it's not easy. The most important thing is to know your kayak; how it reacts in mixed swells, its tipping point, how to upright it, how to mount it, etc. I'm in the process of making my own PA ladder, I've seen Tony use it in both flat and very choppy conditions and I can assure you that it works 110% better than mounting the PA sideways. Also, because the PA is very wide trying a upright it using the same process in the video is virtually impossible, that is unless you have something tied to one of the side rails that will help you pull it over.
