LJ Yellowtail Video - September 21

Sunday 9/21 - I caught the fish this time, on a greenback, around 8:30am. Attempted to gaff but missed, then Middlebro gaffed. Bigbro made the video. I made the dish.

This fish had been speared before! Check out the rope sticking out of it's belly. Never seen that before.

Cheers,
Ash

With the loop on the end it looks more like somebody's bad stringer attempt got away from them.

Greg, there was a metal spear head in its belly on the other end of the rope.

Post that slip tip up for sale on Spearboard.....and tell the story...Mori slip tips and slip tips are pretty expensive. It's quite possible the spearo lost not only the tip, but the spear and gun as well. Looks like spectra, but I've never seen a loop connection to the spear like that. Can you post a picture of the tip?
Cool Find!!!!

It looks like it good be an Alexander Slip tip. $140 or so for the tip and screw adaptor.

How it was attached to the shooting line usually a swivel, to spectra/or float line.

It could be a pole spear slip tip as well, as the flared lip is pretty large.

I will third the pole spear slip tip theory.

Looks like they did that loop to hold onto while they have the band draw back (so the tip doesn't constantly fall off), and to clip a floatline to. This way they can fight the fish once shot.

I would guess (based on the shabby state of the line) that this was mostly a homemade setup, and the floatline must have broken off during the fight. Leaving one unfortunate YT with a new belly piercing.
