Well launched with team OEX hobie and team AYS to a fairly thumpy high tide surf launch, wound up being quite a bit of fun punching through and getting that nice "thud" as you went over the top of the wave! Quickly made it on out to some familiar areas and we all began chucking iron and looking for good marks. I did get a big bump on my iron right off the bottom but it didn't stick. Saw some nice marks but all to no avail...saw one nice fish caught, and got some sandies off the bottom before I called it a day. Water was cold but nice, saw 2 very large gray whales up close and personal 2 nice blow hole spouts and extremely large flukes out of the water and less than 20 feet from the front of my kayak, cool and scary all at once and lots and lots of porpoise and seals!! Good luck to all those heading out!! Nice chatting with you CJ and Nate, and good seeing the rest of you out there, I will be out saturday and sunday hoping to improve!!

thanks for the photos!

hey Matt
thanks alot for the photos! appreciate it..

it's been awhile since i've gone fishing....or even posted.. but from time to time i'll check up and read on my favorite 2 sq. miles of ocean called La Jolla!
and yeah, i'm still reading the about the regular guys, and some new faces killing trophies out there. it's always a good read to see a nice fish on someone's lap!

i've been in Hawaii for the past 2 months and i haven't fished probably since mid August of last year, but a good friend caught a fish yesterday so shit i figured why not try catching one from my stand-up paddle surfboard?

at 630 AM jumped in at the Cove, paddled straight across the kelp and 15 mins later i was fishing....one rod, my gaff, and two yoyo irons..
my first try fishing off my SUP..... i've had many double looks when i've fished LJ the past 4 years but off the SUP takes the cake!
my old Shimano spring scale said it was 34#, it was a FAT fish, but i don't think it was that big..

my Dad will be stoked, i'm going back to Hawaii on Sunday with some Hamachi for him!

La Jolla i'll see you in another 2 months!

thanks again for the pics Matt!

NELZ! Awesome. Good to see your still around.
You must have freaked some people out on the beach when you landed.

Nelz- That friggen killer! That's how my dad got me started. I was never skilled enough or lucky enough to get a YT from the longboard. Very impressive! Hope to see you on the water soon!
