I been out 3 times counting today to la Jolla never hooked on anything big. How far u guys go out? We went out 21/2 to 3 miles today it was about 110 ft at the deepest. Saw a bunch of other yaks but no one was hooking up. On the way out we met a fellow bwe member he said one guy got a nice yellow. Even making bait was a little rough today 3 spanish macks suffered a horrible death to the dogs.

Wow.
I can't imagine how you could break a rod like that under standard fishing conditions. I've done stupid things with lesser rods and been surprised that they didn't break. Seems like you would just about have to slam it in your car door to break a phenix.
Congrats on hooking the right kind.
Ii have yet to do that on the yak.

I don't know about the other guys but i have a battleship for a boat instead of some of those lean, sleek and nimble crafts most of the other guys paddle. So, i guess i consider myself lucky if i'm able to make it past the buoys. That's usually a good day for me and i can go home and have a beer, fully satisfied with the work i've put in. But then again, as i get out more and more, hopefully i'll build up a bit of endurance and add a bit of distance to my trips.
