Check the wind and surf reports before you launch. It might be kind of ugly once you get out a ways.

Playing it by ear
Might hit up a protected harbor like alamitos bay or huntington harbor.
Definitely wouldn't brave the open ocean, but a small tight harbor, yeah that might be do'able

Maybe its just wishful thinking

Looking at the weather here in Scripps Ranch I would say hell ya.... but after reading the forecasts... I am going to have to be ascarred and head to the garage for some much needed work at home. It just isn't worth the risk or hassle of being blown out to sea! I can only paddle so fast. Maybe next week will be better for my woosy butt.

NEVER LISTEN TO THE WEATHERMAN
Fri- forecast wind and rain - actual beautiful day - pumped out flooded garage from thursday night
Sat - forecast rain and wind - actual beautiful day, too late to head out
SUn - forecast rain and wind - actual beautiful day - pumped out flooded garage, again

So never made it out

Yeah, bad call. I went to La Jolla on Saturday morning, expecting to see "victory at sea" and saw a lake instead

Those marine forecasts cover a large area and there can be some major variances.
