OEX HOW Tournament

Many of us have fished in the Mission Bay Bass tournaments that OEX Mission bay has hosted in the past, I have to say that the event OEX hosted yesterday to benefit the HOW program was the best I have seen to date. Over 100 kayak anglers attended the event and have an amazing time. Sadly the fish didn't seem to want to play as well as we would have like.
You couldn't have asked for a better day for the event. The weather was great, and the water was moving all day. Below are some photos I took of the day.

My path of travel for the day

Sea Lions Sunning themselves

My only fish of the day, Juvenile WSB, and my first WSB

Though I may not have caught the right kind, it was fun to catch my first WSB, I was kind of wanting my first to be one out off of La Jolla, but now I can shoot for bigger. It was a fun day on the water. Thank you OEX and all others who spent their wonderful time volunteering to set this event up. Can't wait for the next one.

Congrats on your first Jimmy!!!!!

Prefishing the H.O.W. earlier in the week with optimal tides produced quality toads. Day of tourney was a different story as usual, but still managed to get a solid sixth place finish out of 100+ fellow Kayak anglers..I pitched my trusty Chatterbaits, DieZel MinnowZ & PaddlerZ in Pinfish, Pearl Blue Glimmer & Houdini, Sardine SkirtZ on everything, & Palmetto BugZ in Bluegill lathered in UniButter.
BIG Thanks Matt, Andy, CJ, Adi, Brent, Paul, Squidco, OEX, BWE & KFS! What a great day that was had by all!
Special Thanks to everyone who helped lend a hand making yesterdays event a blast!
Hope to see some of you guys at the next Rady Children Hospital fundraiser / Salt Water Bass Tournament on July 26th, 2014 @ Tidelands.
Heres a few clips from the festivities...

I worked weigh boat Adi (nice ride). Although the fish count wasn't high, the quality was right there, and the 110 anglers who turned out seemed to have a great time. Many thanks to everyone who turned out making this the largest Southern California kayak fishing tournament in years, particularly to Andy Allen, CJ Siebler, the grill crew, Tommy Gomes, OEX / Kayak Fishing Supplies, SoCal HOW, Margarita Mike and Adi and too many others to mention by name.

A photo gallery is posted at the Kayak Fish Facebook page.

Here's Richard Wilson's jackpot.

Congrats to all the winners! It was my first tournament and I had a great time. Didn't get to weigh any fish but my numbers were still good. 3 sand bass, 3 spotties, 2 Halibuts and a huge bat ray. Bat ray must have has about a four feet wing span. Thanks to OEX mission bay for a great event. I was using 1/2 oz jig head with 3" gulp swimming mullet and 1/2 oz war bait with 4" sexy shad zman elaztech paddler.

That's the only think I don't like about fishing that location in Mission bay. That uphill afterward is brutal. Aside from the tough fishing, I had a blast being out on the water, and hooking up with everyone.

I think the easiest way up that hill is to drag the kayak up the sand so it slides easier, then put the wheels on up on the grass. I busted my sand shoes pulling the Kayak up the hill. Everyone was complaining about that uphill climb.

Yes Ken, and thank you again for helping me. Too many times do we try to do things on our own rather than ask for the help. You stepped up and helped and that was great. I was almost to the top, but still that help was greatly appreciated.

I didn't think the hill was that bad. Just pull it up the hill in increments. Take a step then bring it to you. Repeat

That's what I was doing, and I was like 95% there, stopped to take a break, and Ken offered the help the last little bit. I'm always pleased when anyone offers to help. I ruptured my bicep tendon being hard headed with my Kayak once and I've learned to take the help.
